Perhaps you have been a user of Icefilms for quite a while, but have not been involved in participating in the forums until this recent problem.
Icefilms has always, from the very beginning of its existence, made this rule very clear and obvious:
Icefilms admins have a careful, stringent, system of posting safe links free of viruses, malware, etc., to protect the users of the Icefilms. If users post links to other sites, the post will be blocked and the poster may be banned--for safe use of the internet, most sites have similar rules. If you, as a member, had posted links to alternative sites in the forums prior to this current hosting issue, your post would have been blocked and you may have been temporarily banned for not following the rules; if you were a jerk about being asked to follow the rules, then you might have been permanently banned-- same as any other site.
Icefilms does not object if you go search on other sites for links that you alone use, but you cannot post them here, because admins have no way of controlling the integrity of the links. It has always been this way from the beginning, with the purpose of protecting the site and protecting the user. Icefilms has never been about lining its own pockets, and has always been about safe, anonymous service. No one would want one-well-intentioned-but-funky link to be the undoing of thousands of peoples home computers/electronics/etc., and or the mechanics of this site.
You can believe otherwise if you wish, but you will still be wrong.
Icefilms has experienced hosting issues before--it is the nature and risk of running this kind of site. Icefilms admins have always worked around the clock to explore possible alternatives at their own risk, and while donating their time. Every time they admins have to come to the forum to explain the process for the up-teenth time to some unruly poster who does not want to understand the rules--this takes away from their efforts to get the site up and going.
Please, let us all help gently remind these confused posters about the rules and reasons behind the rules. Although it is deliciously tempting to attack ignorance, please recognize that doing so may ultimately pull admins away from working on solutions to monitoring the forums. If we really want to help--this gentle self-monitoring and education of confused members will be the best way to do so at this time.
Many sites that actually host material provide through the links have a policy of eliminating links that have not been used after a certain period of time. Naturally, Icefilms being temporarily down will cause some untapped links to be eliminated. This process also occurs, by the way, when Icefilms is up and running. If you don't use it, you lose it--that is the reality in this day and age of entertainment links and their sources.
If you want to help, there may be an opportunity, after the the new host site is up and running smoothly, when admins ask for help replacing links from volunteers who are willing to follow the specific Icefilms protocol of doing so. After the site is back up, there will be instructions, as there have been previously, in the forums for those who want to contribute.
As always, admins, please feel free to edit and/or eliminate any or all parts of this thread as you see fit. Thank you for your constant diligence, dedication, and hard work.
