Hi guys. Does any one knows other website where we stream?
I love IceFilms but it's down for more than 2 days and I need to watch something.
Cheers!
(MODERATOR EDIT) This may be a temporary forum, but it is still our forum. Posting of competitor sites will earn you banishment from this forum. I realize there is no rules section to this forum as it is temporary, but c'Mon, common sense.

What sense does that make? You provide no service, and yet you demand customer loyalty? And yes, we are "customers" as the ad-revenue you receive off of our views lines your pockets.

This is simple. Yes we could recommend sites. But as they are of an unknown Quality to us.... Well you see I would feel awfully bad about what could happen from visiting a non-pedigreed site. Like when a friend of mine back in the day needed a date for prom. So his sister set him up with her girlfriends, sisters boyfriends aunts, second cousins, next door neighbors friend of a pen pals acquaintance who found this number on a bathroom wall. Well what ever he caught from it 35yrs ago he is still having plastic surgery's monthly. Nuf said?

The service is providing links so people need not hunt links themselves. Yes, you can find them elsewhere all by yourself. However, unless you are part of a release group or you torrent, you will likely only find them using another site that provides the exact same service we do. Just because there are tons of sites that do it does not mean it is not a service. People are not customers because they click ads. By the very definition of customer, it is because they use the service, which is free if you wish. You needn't click any ad, ever. As far as the pocket lining goes, I hear that from time to time, and to be honest, I do not understand why people think sites like this get rich. With a little research anybody can look into the numbers and see that is just not happening. A host for servers that can handle the bandwidth needed to support Ice cost say 200$ a month. Heck let's say 150$. Or 75$. Name your price. That is all out of pocket, up front, every month. The only way to attempt to cover that is through ad revenue, or maybe sell t-shirts. Revenue from every ad clicked is probably around .0001$. Some advertising networks pay out more, but the higher the payout, the higher the user annoyance. Any-who, it would take a whoooooole lot of clicks to cover costs and get rich. Payout from a network to advertise on a website is minimal as well. Maybe selling t-shirts is a better idea. People posting links can make some cash. And that is all theirs. Not a penny gets kicked back to the site. Be kinda rude to ask them for $ as they do all the finding and posting of the links. And only get the same measely .0001$ per hit. Anybody can check with the hosts we use and see the payout rates. Again, that is a he'll of a lot of hits to get rich. All that said, I hope people can understand why linking of competitor sites is not allowed. We do not care if people realize there are other sites that provide the same service, but why the hell would we allow the steering away of what dismal monetary gain we can get to keep the site going? I hope this post gives people a little better insight as to how sites like this function.

Well, I am glad I found this and can read through your reasoning.
ICEFILMS is BY FAR the best and my personal favorite (which is why I promote the heck out of it) - and that fact alone should be enough to maintain your userbase. Certainly there is a risk in allowing others to link to 'competitors', but in doing so you would be further cementing the values that the site is founded on - and ensuring that the movies and shows that you work so hard to compile are still online and able to be found.
Its kinda like giving out free refills. Stinks on paper, and yet, its a huge success in pratice.
Freedom of information, and free distribution of information are our friends.
PS I would buy your t-shirts and wear them proudly - dont know if that is feasible to market them without exposing yourselves to bigger risks (ie government tracking you down) but I think its an interesting idea.
PPS In all of your hard work to get the server back up - dont forget to relax and take time off for Christmas with your families - ICEFILMS can wait - and you guys have earned the R&R

I can kind of see why you are championing your thoughts in the forum. But at the end of the day, we are all living in a monetary society. It would be great if the internet could be a totally free experience with uninhibited exchange of information. The harsh reality of it is that the internet is far from free. And the internet can never be free in a monetary based society without first examining and fixing everything that led to the monetary society. It simply can not be fixed from the top down.
Even if we lived in a barter based society, the people building the infrastructures would want paid in potato. The people running servers would would have to pay potatoes to the engineers to build the servers. If people wanted to use those servers, they would have to pay in potato. Those people must find a way to acquire extra potato to keep the site up. No potato, no site. Of course, they can Nat use the potatoes they have or earn. Those potatoes feed their family. The mortgage company, electric company, insurance company, etc., also want that individuals potatoes to pay for services. And little Suzy needs braces. More fricken potatoes, damn it. So the individual is forced make a deal with an ad agency in exchange for potatoes to pay the host in potatoes. And what is left after all is said and done is a few extra potatoes. Sorry, I went on a bit of a tangent, there. The point is, it costs money to keep the site up and advertising barely pays it. That is why linking is simply not allowed. We can not afford to give other people our potential potatoes.
Just for people's information, we used to accept donations via PayPal. PayPal dropped us because of the service provided. We started accepting bitcoin. Seriously? How many people have bitcoin. When folks say they would donate but can't, the founder of the site tells them to donate the money to a worthwhile charity. He himself is completely opposed to the monetary based society we live in and has expressed such several times in our forum.
Anybody that thinks Icefilms is about lining pocket is sadly mistaken.
Thank you for the holiday wishes and a merry Christmas to you and yours also.
