Kuro-while you are at it-- you should ask the moderators what they had for breakfast and their home addresses.
Icefilms, I would believe is like any other business. They have to make decisions to keep themselves in business. Sometimes those decisions can prove to be inconvenient for those of us who love this service. As an analogy- imagine you are waiting for a flight but there is a severe storm out. The airline may choose to delay the flight because of the weather and may not give you a specific time of when the flight will leave. Most of the passengers would be inconvenienced-but would probably choose the inconvenience than to risk their lives on the plane. The difference in my analogy is that you bought a ticket. If you were given a free flight and happened to read the poster ads at the airport-that wouldn't constitute anyone to have any entitlement.
Repdaddy et al. thank you for getting us this forum as fast as you did. Thank you for making what I would imagine to be business decision that will allow us to use your service for many years to come. I am confident that should you have some clarity on a new host that you will communicate it to us.
Icefilms has been a very resilient site that has survived and adapted through the ever changing landscape. They've done this by being the best.
Kuro- I think I can answer all three of your questions •Why did icefilms go down - because •When will it be back up - When there is a new home •How will you prepare for this circumstance again? - They will prepare by having contingency plans, and move to where they have to move when they have to move.
I said my peace

Hey guys, long time user, first time poster. I'm making this thread because it appears there is a major lack of communication on this forum, while granted it's just a temp. board, no doubt thousands of people like myself are coming here wondering whats going on, only to find one line posts and very little serious information about what happened. That being said, I believe it was a DDoS attack but I could be wrong, personally I would appreciate a chime in from the admins as to why this sudden downtime occurred, furthermore, given the nature of the site and traffic, it does lead one to ask why redundant backup solutions are not in place? For example it would be pretty simple to run multiple shard instances and a dns failover solution. All in all, personally, I would just like an update on a few things: - Why did icefilms go down
- When will it be back up
- How will you prepare for this circumstance again?
I ask these questions because for the first time in a long long time, I was forced to use another provider, which got me thinking why come back to icefilms at all if this is going to be the situation with them every time an attack hits?
Don't take this the wrong way and start spamming the thread with 'we didn't need you anyway' posts - just trying to give the average user perspective.
In conclusion I recommend a cloud backup solution, putting your forum domain on a separate server, and hosting from OVH - But most of all I recommend active communication about every step of the process for your users. With love for my icefilms, do not go silently into the night. -Kuro Again I will post this as it is all the info that is going to be forthcoming at this time... torrentfreak.com/icefilms-downtime-causes-concern-but-site-will-return-141217/

First...I love you, Icefilm--I'm just genuinely glad that everyone is okay and safe (hopefully that is a safe assumption to make).
Second...Kuro--nice job, you couldn't have sounded more like a narc if you had given us your name and badge number. You have, however, given me more entertainment with this thread than I've had in a long time...since...well, since Ice was last up (and a certain Japanese-owned entertainment company hadn't bent to the demands of a starving communist stronghold...)
Just saying... ;-) (again, thanks to all and, although, you are greatly missed, please take as much time as it takes to make sure everyone is safe.)

Seriously Kuro? ?? I mean, I can't even.. I just can't even.... Did you read what you wrote.. OH I can't even.... You had to go to another site and NOT pay for something that you were already NOT going to pay for??? I.. I...err.. I just want to understand.. Why do you matter? In the grand scheme of things.. Who the Flippidy Doo gives a Rats Cheetoh whether or not you return? ? Do you donate?? Made any donations recently?? What an entitled little f... mmmmmm I can't even.. Just stay patient and consider for a second .... No.. Can't finish that thought.. Here are my questions to Kuro. 1: Why do you NEED to know? 2: If it was a DDoS attack, do you think knowing would change anything? 3: Do you think if it was a DDoS attack you could fix it? 4: If the answer to #2 is "Well if would change if I came back or continued using the site" then do you think you would be missed? 5: Did you get all of the attention you needed from this post? If not get a puppy and stop trolling Laugh my ass off after reading your post, I totally agree with you! Thank you!

Ok...Enough has hen said here. The OPs posts have been responded to with precice answers by staff members of the site. With precision, at least to the point we can comment. I implore any further readers of this thread to please just read and move along.
The OP has not responded, and there is zero reason to provoke him/her to do so.
This thread needs to die a natural death via zero posting in my opinion

Mods and Owners,
I too thank you for reconnecting me with lost movie nuggets from my younger years.
I know what it's like to have to change hosting providers on a small scale, so I can only imagine what it's like to do it for Gigs and Pets of data and links.
Looking forward to icefilms' new home.

Hi all, First I would like to say other than my normal withdrawals from not having the Icefilms front page up and handy for my daily fixes , I'm glad to see it is only a temporary down time due to a primary hosting provider (now no more). Ther are several things I have noticed in the news and especially after the Sony breakin and leaks, that have come to the forefront though that some are probably not even aware of as the News media overall buries or tries to bury it. Some of the interesting titles ones may wish to review such as "Hollywood is still obsessed with breaking the internet" and "The full story of Project Goliath and Hollywood's quest to control the web", etc., is really the primary issue of what happened and why. A lot of Politicians, Governments and others are also being back door funded from the MPAA to still try to take control of the internet and still implement SOFA in back door legislations and meetings. this all has been going on for over 10 years but is finally getting the attention it needs in some arenas, although not enough. A lot of the Web hosters (not the actual ISP's usually although some of them have caved too) also are not following the legal guidelines and laws and especially the RFC's that used to be adhered to such as needing legal Court orders and/or proper logs and information to back claims (I forget atm what that is called). Yes in a sense icefilms may be giving a service as do may others, but they are not or should not be controlled by such as the MPAA or any other entity on the internet as long as they do not actually host the files themselves etc. Wether they or others use ads or simply ask for membership dues or donations to keep their services up, is just a method to pay fo such services. Is that not the Universal dream to begin with? PRovide a service and be able to get paid for it in a reasonable fashion. To be able to pay the bills, to put food on the table, to improve life overall? The initial intent of the founders of the Internet was freedom of information and communication. The MPAA and the MAFIAA essentially want to control the internet and what people see or can do period. Yes there are threats regarding Terrorism but that is another issue altogether. Become aware and take action bon't just sit on ones ass so to speak else Big Brother and Sleeper, Soilent Green, and others will become a true reality in the New World Order that is slowly taking shape. The topics and links I pointed to earlier btw can be found at such as www.theverge.com/ and torrentfreak.com/ and www.techdirt.com/Anyway thats my input on this and as said before ... glad to see the Site owners are working for a new host, hopefully one that will not be so shall we say scared to do the right thing! Can't wait for the site to come back up fully again

If they want back door funding, all they need to do is ask Russtromic. He is in to that.

I think this guy has been following some of my posts or reading my mind..... I catch a lot of flack for trying to raise awareness to these and deeper issues. When we get the site back up I will look. I think I was predicting the Internet war 5 yrs ago.

Someone suggested a dual option to access files via IRC, and pose as a backup form of communication should a situation like this occur again. IRC can be cool as well since it's not as "public record" as any forum. Anyone familiar with using IRC mIRC in the past to share files knows what I'm talking about, and I still get files that way today.
Also for the record, I agree with the comments about IceFilms being a luxury. Supporting through "ads" is a lame excuse as you do it for practically every site there is today regardless. I hate people who think things are owed to them, especially for a free service other people DONATE their time to make available.
Just my 2 cents...
